Edge Paint

Edge paint is used on leather for smooth, durable and aesthetically pleasing finish that provides protection and enhances the item’s appeal. It’s essential for certain leathers that cannot be easily burnished and serves as a barrier to seal the edge, preventing water from seeping in. Edge paint also allows for customization with various colors, offering an additional design element for luxury goods and differentiating products in the market.

Protection and Durability
  • Seals the Edge:  Edge paint creates a durable, protective barrier on the exposed edge of the leather, preventing wear from daily use.
  • Water Resistance: The coating dries water-resistant, which helps to prolong the leather’s lifespan and protect it from moisture.
  • Smooth Finish: Edge paint provides a consistent, smooth, and polished appearance that looks high-quality.

Aesthetics and Design
  • Enhanced Appeal: It adds a sense of elegance and luxury to leather goods like handbags, wallets, and shoes, making them stand out.
  • Customization: Edge paints come in a vast array of colours, allowing you to complement the leather, or create unique combinations.
  • Finishing Touch: For many leather items, a well-finished edge is crucial to the overall aesthetic and is considered a hallmark of high-quality craftsmanship.

When to Use Edge Paint
  • Soft or Incompatible Leathers: Edge paint is a good alternative when the leather is too soft to burnish effectively or doesn’t take a traditional burnish well, such as with some chrome-tanned leathers.
  • To Match a Specific Design: It’s a useful tool to introduce a particular color, finish, or style to the edges of the products.
  • When Maximum Durability is Needed: A properly applied and built-up edge paint can offer superior durability and resistance to abrasion compared to some other edge-finishing techniques.
